The Good…..The Bad……The Rate Increase!

The Good…..The Bad……The Rate Increase!

Those two dreaded words……rate increase.  No one wants to hear those words.  Not even the water district.  However, inflation and other economic conditions warrant them.  To keep up with rising costs, the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC), who regulates water districts, recommends that a rate increase occur at least every other year.  Since April 17, 2013, MCWD#3 rates have been unchanged until now.

The Bad:  So what is the rate changing to?  At $22.39, the minimum bill covers usage from zero to two thousand gallons. A 4,000 gallon a month user will notice an increase of $7.50 per month.

The Good:  Utilizing water from MWCD#3 is still the cheapest per gallon!  Where else can one penny buy you a gallon of something?  Yes, that’s right.  One cent will purchase one gallon of water!!  Here are some comparisons to put it into perspective:

Item                                    Amount per Gallon                                             Water per gallon

+*Water           $.80           $.01
Gas           $2.69           $.01
*Glidden Paint           $16.29           $.01
+*Milk           $2.49           $.01
+*Orange Juide           $3.44           $.01
*Prestone Antifreeze           $10.87           $.01
*Country Rich Ice Cream           $5.93/gallon & 1 pt           $.01
*Windshield Washer Fluid           $3.29           $.01

So even after the increase, it is still one of the cheapest items you can buy!
